This is a technical support page for the website. For more general help about our products and services please visit our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) here >>>.

Our website has been built to work on the widest range of computers and operating systems. If you do have a problem, the following information will help with commen issues which are generally easy to resolve. Just work your way down the subject titles in the page.

Basics
Try to ensure that your computer has the latest system updates and run a maintenance utility (e.g Sandra on Windows and ONYX on Mac) once a month in order to keep it working effectively. This applies to both your operating system and the web browser software you use to view the Internet. Every computer picks up conflicts and will slow down over a period of time. Updating your system and running a cleaning utility can help to maintain performance.

Both Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh systems have basic software and utilities built in to help you keep your system operating effectively. If you are unaware of these, try accessing your systems 'Help' files or visit the companies websites for more information.

Web Browsers
There are 3 mainstream browsers available to you - Internet Explorer (Windows), Safari (Mac) and Firefox (Windows and Mac). This website has been checked by our staff on all three and any browser specific issues corrected. However, it is worth keeping your browser up to date as security issues do arise which can compromise your ability to view this and other websites. If you wish to update your browser now, click the icon of your preferred browser. Note, these are offsite links which will open in a new window. Gear4Vans is not responsible for your use of the browsers. Always check that the download is compatible with your operating system.

Page Errors and Lack of Functionality - Security Settings

Security settings on your web browser are the single biggest cause of web page problems. When you set these to HIGH levels, they often turn OFF legitimate functions such as Javascript which is used in support of functions like eCommerce. Pop-Up Blockers can also prevent you from accessing innocent links as well as annoying adverts, so use these controls carefully.

Security has become a big issue because of weaknesses in the Windows operating system and Internet Explorer. It is not a problem on Apple Macintosh and you will gain nothing by turning features off in Safari or Firefox on a Mac. Under Windows you can often select which websites to restrict. If you are having trouble with functionality, selecting links, or viewing features on our website, we would suggest that you reduce the security settings for our website. You have our assurance that there will be no offensive or unsolicited actions performed by this website.

Adobe Acrobat Documents
This is simply a file type which works well on the web allowing us to include typeset pages more like a magazine but with a small file size. It works on both Windows and Mac computers and will open either in your web browser or from your desktop (you can save it to the desktop like an image to open or print later if you wish).

Most computers will open Acrobat documents - known as PDF's without any trouble. If the document wont open you can get a 'Free' update from the following external link. Its a simple download that will only take a minute to install. Adobe Acrobat Update here >>>

Scripting - Java and Javascript
Scripting is not in itself harmful - in fact MOST websites and ALL eCommerce sites use some form of scripting in order to provide the necessary levels of functionality and security required. It may have been switched off by over zealous security software (set to High or Highest for example) or a network administrater at work ( N.B. your network or web administrater can set the system to ALLOW this website if you ask him/her nicely).

In order for this website and its eCommerce to function properly, Java/Javascript should be enabled in your web browser. If you receive a warning about scripting when entering our pages or the ticker bar animation under the main menu does not work, it is very likely that you have one or both disabled in your browser's Security settings. You can reset this easily yourself with the help below.

MS Windows - Depending on your operating system and version of Internet Explorer, you will find settings for Java in the web browser menu (top bar) either under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced or under Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level. In both cases work down the list of items shown and enable the entry Javascript and/or Scripting.

Apple - Under OSX and Safari simply go to
Safari/Preferences/Security and check (enable) Javascript.

Adobe Flash
Adobe Flash is a widely accepted file format which allows small video and animation files to play easily through your web browser. It requires a small installation before you can view the files. Most modern computers will have this software included already. With MS Windows, Active X must also be enabled to view Flash files - you'll find it in your browsers security settings (Tools/Internet Options/Security/Custom Level).

Installing Flash is very simple and you can find the official, free Flash Player link here >>>. Please note, this is an offsite link which will open in a new window. Gear4Vans is not responsible for your installation and use of Flash. Always check that the download is compatible with your operating system before you begin.
